| Join CMC Board member Dale Hughes on what should be a wonderful snowshoe to the historic Balsam Lake Mountain Fire Tower. This winter views from the top of the 60' structure never disappoint on this Catskill high peak. This will be a roundtrip from Mill Brook Road parking area. Moderate elevation gain (approx 1,200 feet) and moderate pace. Winter conditions may be severe, so appropriate gear a necessity. 6 miles; Moderate; Crampons and snowshoes required; Advance registration required - Call Dale for meeting time and place at 845.679.1196. Directions - From State Route 28, proceed to hamlet of Arkville, located east of Margaretville and west of Fleischmanns. Turn south on Dry Brook Road (Turns into County Route 49 once you enter Ulster County). Go approximately 5 miles, then make sharp right-turn onto Mill Brook Road.
