Come inside Chapel Hall during the Franklin Farmers' Market and hear the rich strains ofthis classical woodwind quintet: Heather Kriesel on flute, Kathy Karlsen on oboe, Jeff Barker on french horn, Melinda Lewis on bassoon, and Franklin Central School's beloved band conductor and music teacher Carol Smith on clarinet.
Says FSC Executive Director Carmela Marner, "Inviting Mosaic Winds to perform inside Chapel Hall during the market is an exciting collaboration. We're hoping that market patrons will sit down and enjoy the whole set, though all are free to come and go, with due respect to the musicians of course, between concert and market." The five members of Mosaic Winds are music teachers and performers in the central New York area who have come together to create this professional classical group. Kriesel is the Instrumental Music teacher at Greene Central School, Karlson is a private music teacher and performer in the Binghamton area, Lewis is an Instrumental Music teacher at Vestal Central School, while French Horn player Barker breaks the mold and teaches geology at Binghamton University. "We're especially delighted to host Mosaic Winds as Clarinetist Carol Smith is the beloved and inspiring band director at Franklin Central School," says Marner. Mosaic Winds will perform two sets, at 12:30pm and 1:30pm, including selections from composers Beethoven, Jacques Ibert, Franz Danzi, Gabriel Pierne, P. Taffanel, A. Barthe, and Lowell E. Shaw.
